One of the things I love the most on a rainy weekend is to get ready for a home cinema session.
Carrera al video club que nos cierra!
"-Let's fly to the video shop -I say- It's gonna close soon!"
Con poco tiempo para decidir, recorremos las estanterías contrareloj cuales participantes del Juego de la Oca ( Sí, aquel que presentaba Emilio Aragon allá por los 90's) ávidas de hacer la elección de la semana en tiempo récord.
With little time to decide, we run over the shelves as if we were participating on one of those gymkhana games were you have two minutes to win the challenge.
"-¿Que cogemos?, ¡rápido! ¿Ésta de risa y un dramón de amor? "
"-What are we taking?, Quick! This funny one and a love story?."
"-Venga sí que para eso estamos solas. ¡Démos rienda suelta al moco! -"
"- Go on yeah!, After all it's a girls night. Let's cry our eyes out!"
Mientras la chica me prepara los dvd's, yo casi siempre pregunto: "-¿Que tal está? ¿La has visto?-queriendo que ella confirme mi elección-"
While the girl prepares the DVD's I always ask, "-Have you seen it? Is it good?-like wanting her to reinforce my decision-"
No sé yo para qué , si en realidad siempre responden lo mismo:
"-Está bien… -pensando- ya está otra vez la pesada ésta queriendo cambiar a última hora…"
I don't really know why, because they always answer the same thing:
"- Yeah it's good..- thinking-"here is again the bugging one wanting to change movies last minute-"
De vuelta en casa, acopladas en el sofá, se produce el momento de felicidad con el bowl de palomitas humeantes a mantequilla sobre la mesa, el vaso de Coca-Cola, la bolsa de la chucherías y mando listo para pulsar "play".
Back at home, we take positions on the sofa, the the magic moment where everything is ready: hot butter pop corns on the table, big glass of Coke, a bag of sweets and the Play Station control in my hand ready to pulse "play".
Empieza la película!
"- Apaga la luz-digo-"
The movie is on.
Switch off the light please - I say-."
Media hora más tarde, nos miramos:
"- ¿No era esta peli no es de risa?."
Half and hour later…:
"- Wasn't this suppose to be hilarious?."
Pues no.
Apparently not.
Aquí empieza lo que denominamos una de los peores momentos que suceden al "momentazo" de preparación a la sesión de cine. (Por detrás del momento en el que el dvd está defectuoso y se para)
Here start what we can call one of the worst moments that follow the excitement of getting ready for a movies session. (After the one where the dvd just rented, stops working in the best part of the film)
La peli no te engancha, no tiene la gracia que esperabas. En este momento desearías llamar al timbre de la casa de la desgraciada que te dijo: "- Está muy bien-con voz de pito-", raptarla y hacerla que te abra de nuevo el videoclub para poder escoger de nuevo sin molestarte esta vez en preguntarle que le parece tu elección.
The film is not engaging, and it's not as funny as we expected. Now I wish I could ring the bell of the house of that girl who said the movie was good, force her to re open the shop and choose another one! But it's too late.
"- ¡No nos preocupemos! ¡Tenemos otra…!-pensamos-."
"-Don't worry, we have another one!."
La carátula leía: "La historia de amor más romántica del año, 4 estrellas, The Independent".
This should be good. The cover read: "The best love story of the year. 4 starts, The Independent".
Esperábamos que los kleenex planearan sobre la alfombra, descargar todo el estrés lo de la semana en los 108 minutos de film , creernos por unas horas que nosotras éramos la prota de la peli y que nuestro maromo era él, ese apuesto galán que hace lo imposible por su amor.
We imagined kleenex flying around the room, all the stress of the week wiped away with the 108 minutes of the film. To believe for a couple of hours we are the stars of the film, and of course, our prince is this so romantic guy that do the impossible for her love…
Pues no.
We were wrong.
En su lugar, el apuesto galán es un campeón inmaduro de mucho cuidado, y ella, más sosa que una lechuga sin aliño. La historia de amor, que se cuenta tomando como referencia un día del año, el 15 de Julio, (curiosamente el día que estábamos viendo la peli) te desespera a no poder más. Ayuda que la banda sonora consista en una repetición pegajosa y anticuada de el mismo track una y otra vez. Un punto positivo; la imitación de Anne Hathaway del acento inglés está bien conseguido, aunque a mí esta chica sigue sin acabar de convercerme.
Instead, the gentleman was an immature champion "wanna be". And she, an unsalted and boring character that makes you want to jump from the seat to the telly and take action for her!. This love story, evolves around one date, the 15th of July (curiously exactly when we were watching the film) and the scenes go through this day for every year the love story last. Too much. It helps the sound track consist on the repetition of the same sound over and over again to the desperation.
One good thing: Anne Hathaway's English accent is well achieved.
¡Ahora sí que me presentaba en el vídeo club cual luchadora de película manga haciendo malabares en el aire con una katana!. En tres zás cual Zorro covertía los dvd's en separadores de libro. Muchas gracias por la recomendación.
Now is when I would appear on the video-shop, flying as a Matrix fighter!. With my big sword on the air I would sliced the dvd's in three before anybody could blink. Now, thanks very much for recommending the films.
